  • 1 loaf 1 loaf of brioche bread Use day-old brioche for better absorption.
  • 4 large 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup 1 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with almond milk or coconut cream for dairy-free.
  • 1 cup 1 cup milk Can be substituted with almond milk or coconut cream for dairy-free.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • Berries or fruit (for serving, optional) Enhance flavor and presentation.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut the brioche bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Pour this mixture over the bread slices, making sure every piece is well coated.
  4. Cover the baking dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the dish is set and lightly browned.
  3. Sprinkle the top with brown sugar and broil for 1-2 minutes until caramelized.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with berries or fruit if desired.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until heated through. Broil the sugar topping just before serving to maintain its crispiness. You can also experiment with different flavors by adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.
